It's like a fancy version of cheesy potatoes, but with onions instead. First, you slice the onions into circles, about a quarter-inch thick, and lay them flat in a baking dish to roast a bit. Then, you pour on a mix of cream and cheese, sprinkle more cheese on top, and roast it again until everything is golden and bubbly. The onions get super tender and their sweet and tangy flavor goes perfectly with the creamy cheese sauce. It's a taste explosion!

Delicious Asiago Roasted Onions Recipe for Thanksgiving

Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 40 minutes Total Time: 50 minutes Servings: 4

Ingredients:

  • 4 large yellow onions, peeled and sliced into quarter-inch slices
  • Olive oil
  • Half teaspoon chopped thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons dijon mustard
  • Half cup grated asiago cheese

Directions:

Arrange the onion slices in a greased baking dish in a single layer. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with thyme, salt, and pepper. Roast in a preheated oven at 450°F (230°C) for 20 minutes.

While the onions are roasting, heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until it simmers. Stir in the mustard and half of the grated cheese until melted. Pour this creamy mixture over the roasted onions and sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.

Cover the dish with foil and bake for another 20 minutes until the onions are tender, the cheese is melted, and the edges are bubbly.
  1. Optional: Mix 1 tablespoon of white miso paste into the cream along with the mustard and cheese.
  2. Optional: Use parmesan or another cheese instead of asiago.
